FAQ

Why are some keys not being detected?

Some keys may be captured by your browser or operating system before reaching the testing tool. For example, Alt+F4 (Windows) or Cmd+Q (Mac) will close the window before the tool can detect them. Try using fullscreen mode (F11) to minimize these conflicts.

What is keyboard ghosting?

Keyboard ghosting occurs when you press multiple keys at once and some keys fail to register. This is a hardware limitation of cheaper keyboards. Gaming keyboards often have "anti-ghosting" or "N-key rollover" features that prevent this. Use our ghosting test by pressing multiple keys (like Q+W+E) to check your keyboard.

How does the heat map work?

The heat map visualizes your typing patterns by coloring keys based on how often you press them. Blue/cool colors indicate rarely-pressed keys, while red/hot colors show your most-used keys. This helps you understand your typing habits and identify which keys get the most use.

Can I test my keyboard on a phone or tablet?

The tool is designed primarily for physical keyboards on computers. While it may work with on-screen keyboards on mobile devices, the experience and functionality will be limited. For best results, use a computer with a physical keyboard.

Why does it show Ctrl instead of Control on my Mac?

The tool displays key labels based on standard conventions. On Mac, the "Control" key is shown as "Ctrl" and the "Command" key as "Win" or "Meta" for consistency across platforms. The actual key detection works correctly regardless of the label.

Is my typing data being recorded or sent anywhere?

Absolutely not. All key detection and analysis happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No data is recorded, saved to disk, or transmitted over the network. Your privacy is completely protected. You can even use the tool offline once the page is loaded.
